As far back as Josh can remember he has always wanted to custom build and paint vehicles at a shop owned by him and his brother Jake. Tragically, in 2018 those dreams were taken from him when Jake lost his battle to cancer. One thing Jake made sure to do before his passing was to tell Josh to “never give up on your dreams and never let anyone tell you they can’t be done.”
In 2019, after moving to North Carolina Josh met his wife, Amy. From the time of their meeting Amy has advocated for him and told him she would support him in any way possible to make his dream come true. In October of that year, they purchased what would kickstart the journey; a 1981 Chevrolet C10. This was special, as it not only served as the basis for starting the company, but the year 1981 also happened to be the year Jake was born and the truck was to be built as a tribute to Jake.
Midway through the year 2020 Josh and Amy decided it was time to start getting to work on getting the shop started. It was quickly realized that they could not go it alone, so they invited their daughter Stephanie Davis and her husband Ian to join them as partners. This was great because, at the time, Ian had a prior eight years of experience working on cars while going to school for his engineering degree.
Now it is no mere coincidence that the name of the business was familiar. In continuing the tribute to Josh’s bother, who owned the shop Garage Werks, the team wanted to create a similar name. But what to call it. Originally it was to be simply Garage Werks 2, but they felt it needed some creativity. After a few conversations about the name, they realized that the tribute vehicle was a squarebody. It was then decided that the company was to be named Garage Werks 2 (Squared).
